The Republic of the Congo celebrates its Independence Day from France rule, every August 15th each year since 1960.
The Republic of the Congo, also known as Congo-Brazzaville, gained independence from France on August 15, 1960. The territory known today as Congo-Brazzaville, France colonized and called it French Equatorial Africa in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Fulbert Youlou founder of the Democratic Union for the Defense of African Interests (Union Démocratique de Défense des Intérêts Africains, or UDDIA)., played a significant role in advocating for independence and becoming the country’s first President after independence.
