Bronx Community College/CUNY Wins First-Ever United States Department of Agriculture Grant to Showcase Innovative Research to Improve Nutrition Access in the Bronx Through Rocks
Join the Dietetics and Nutrition Science team within the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation at Bronx Community College/CUNY as they host the first-ever Conference on Geological Agriculture (GeoAg) Nutrition in Urban Centers. Geological Agriculture (GeoAg) is the study and application of growing plants in rocks without the use of soils and fertilizers.
This conference is funded by a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture and represents the first time in the history of Bronx Community College/CUNY that this institution has received a grant from USDA.

Conference on Geological Agriculture (GeoAg) Nutrition in Urban Centers

Faculty from Bronx Community College/CUNY, Tennessee State University, Morgan State University, and Fort Valley State University will present GeoAg innovation and sustainability-related research to:
1) Applying GeoAg micro-farming / apartment farming methodologies in urban centers, offering nutrition alternatives to inner-city food desert residents.
2) Examining GeoAg plant behavior and nutritional value, identifying the nutritional properties of plants grown in rocks without soil and fertilizers.
Bronx Community College student GeoAg researchers will present their GeoAg experience on video in their native tongues of Spanish, Ashanti (Ghana), Hangugeo (South Korea), and Mandinka (Gambia) among other foreign languages with English subtitles. Come re-examine rocks with us!
